FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH 160 Walnut Street (816) 640-2837
The First Baptist Church was founded in
1868. The lot was purchased from early
business leader, Benjamin Holladay for
$1.00. Holladay's International Hotel, which
burned in the mid 1800's, was previously on the
site. In 1896 the Baptist Church was
completely destroyed by fire. A second
building was built on the site, which now
houses the Weston Historical Museum. In 1959
the church moved to a new building on
Walnut Street.

Salem Christian Church in Weston's rural
countryside was organized in 1837. A fire in
1927 destroyed most of the second church
building built in 1868. As a fundraiser,
quilt blocks were sold, pieced and quilted.
At the dedication the quilt was presented to
the quilter as a token of appreciation. It
was donated to the Weston Historical Museum
by her granddaughter who still lives in
Weston. The quilt is on display at the
Weston Historical Museum.

The Civil War brought construction of the
Weston United Methodist to a halt. The
church found itself divided on the slavery
issue and during the war the church stood
empty and unfinished. With peace restored
the building was completed and in 1868, nine
years after construction had begun, the
Church was dedicated with a grand
celebration.
