October 5th & 6th

Saturday 10am - 6pm | Parade at 10am on Saturday
Sunday 11am - 5pm
Adults $1.00 Donation
Kids under 15 FREE

Celebrating 31 years, the Applefest event in historic downtown Weston is known throughout the Midwest as one of the best fall festivals in Missouri.

Visitors to Applefest are encouraged to come early on Saturday morning to enjoy Weston’s hometown parade along Main Street at 10:00 am. The Saturday parade will feature antique tractors, classic cars, fire trucks, and bands.

There will be over 50 art and craft booths along the downtown Main Street to peruse and you’re also invited to browse the many unique Weston shops during your visit.

Our mini-hay baler has demonstrated and sold his hay bales for 26 years.  Watch apple butter being made over an open fire and purchase a jar of apple butter to take home. Kids will love to work the apple press to see how apple cider is made.

Weston’s famous apple dumplings, apple pies, and cookies will be available through our local churches. You can catch a quick and tasty bite at our Applefest Food Court or, you might choose to sit down, relax and enjoy the delicious cuisine at one of the several fine restaurants in Weston.

Fun children’s activities both days are planned in the park with Pony Rides, Face Painting, Pumpkin Painting, and Agriculture Education Interactive Games and Activities.

EVENT SATELLITE PARKING

Two satellite parking areas along 45 Hwy will be available to the public with free bus shuttle to and from the event: Snow Creek Ski Area, and the Iatan Power Plant/KCPL Ball Field. There will be parking attendants helping with parking and questions.  Disability parking is available at the SNOW CREEK lot. Hwy JJ will be open in order to access the Holladay Distillery and Eventful at Locust Grove. Welt Street will have two-way traffic to access Green Dirt Farm Creamery. If entering town on JJ you will be directed to Welt Street to satellite parking. No traffic or public parking downtown. Irishfest Celebration | October 11-13

The Weston Irish Festival began in 2000 as a one-day event which drew an attendance of 1500 people. As the first act took the stage, on what had been a beautiful morning, the clouds rolled in and by the end of the day had dumped three inches of rain on the festival. In the true spirit of the Irish however, the audience stuck it out, the musicians did all they could by playing impromptu sets wherever there was a reasonably dry spot in between the rain showers, and everyone managed to still have a great time.

VINYARD HOME “LINCOLN’S OTHER MARY’’ at 613 Walnut was built in 1846. This five-room brick Federal-style cottage was the home of Abraham Lincoln’s “other Mary”, the woman from Greene County, Kentucky to whom our sixteenth president proposed by letter in 1836 when he was an aspiring lawyer in Springfield, Illinois. An ardent courtship ensued, but Mary Owens spurned his numerous marriage proposals and ultimately both married other people. While making the trek to the top of the driveway, visitors can read snippets of Lincoln’s letters to Mary Owens and associated history in the home. Holiday refreshments inside the home reflect Mary’s Kentucky heritage and Weston’s distillery history. Unique treasures, art collections, memorabilia, seasonal decor...and maybe a visit from a spirit...transport visitors back in time.

“SOMERSET” at 210 Welt Street, also known as Boarding House Row, was built in 1846 by early Weston pioneer Lorenzo Dow Bird. This charming Federal-style home originally overlooked the Missouri River, a view lost when the river moved two miles east in the flood of 1881. Mr. Bird was an attorney and among the original city fathers. As a free-soiler, he was opposed to slavery and heavily involved in the Missouri-Kansas border issue. The original structure consisted of only two rooms. Over the years, several tasteful additions were completed. Newer addition includes a large hearth room with 10’ ceilings, modern kitchen, and lovely master suite, while keeping the home’s brick exterior and historic charm. The hearth room opens to a decorated pergola and waterfall. The owner will have her grandmother’s limited edition Pipka Santa collection and her great grandmother’s china to share.

STEPHEN HOME at 616 Main Street was built circa 1847-1850. This two story Federal style home is typical of the homes built during the Weston boom days of the 1840s and 50s when wagon trains outfitted in Weston for their trip west. This interesting two story home is constructed of handmade brick, and animal hair was used to create the soft brick mortar and plaster walls. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen bought the property in 1973 and restored it as closely as possible to its original design. The walnut staircase and newel post were refinished, repaired and reassembled 50 years ago. A time capsule in the newel post was inserted by Mr and Mrs Stephen for a future generation’s understanding of the house and time. This home was on the FIRST Candlelight Tour 38 years ago. The home is filled with an eclectic mix of antiques and contemporary furnishings, in addition to the owners original paintings, plus their personal collection of other artists’ work, including photography, folk art and crafts. The “carriage house” was rebuilt with the painting studio on the second floor, and the gallery and retail shop for their business, Bella and Company, on the ground level.

UNMESSIG-POSS-MARR HOME at 600 Market Street was built in 1849. In 1844, the property consisting of four lots, was first deeded to Elijah Cody, uncle of Buffalo Bill Cody. A. Unmessig acquired the property and built the original three-room dwelling. Market Street, originally named Water Street, was located one-half block from the riverbank. The new owners have incorporated antique furniture, decor and wall furnishings to complement the history of the home. Some of the furnishings have historical ties to the town of Weston, while others have ties to the homeowners. A collection of paintings done by four generations of the owners can be seen in the art studio. Antique collections include family antiques, an 1890’s Pennsylvania Dutch bedroom set, two beautiful knock down wardrobes, one of which was original to the St. George Hotel. A stunning 1900 Nickelodeon player piano adorns the hallway. Owner’s collection of royal ruby glass, which she has been acquiring since the age of 12, and unusually tall barrister cabinets are a few of their other treasures.

“THE OLD METHODIST PARSONAGE” at 708 Spring Street was built in 1847. This house is of Federal style construction with three brick thick walls, which extend down to bedrock. The first floor has eight foot high ceilings and the second level has ten foot high ceilings. The two flanking chimneys accommodate four fireplaces, three of which are remaining. One wooden fireplace screen has a historical painting of the house, artist unknown. Over the years the home passed through several owners. In 1902 it was deeded to the Weston Methodist Church where it remained the parsonage for 52 years. The new owners from the Pacific northwest have added their touch to the historic home and think of the people who lived there before them and the conversations that they had within the walls of the home. Christmas decorations and religious articles throughout the house are collections from around the country.
