The Avalon Cafe is located in an antebellum home built in1847 originally called “White Lace” for all the white, lacy gingerbread that adorns the long front porch. Eighteen Ninety Event Space is located at 15640 Highway 92 in Tracy Missouri, just a few minutes southeast of Weston, Missouri, and 15 minutes north of the Kansas City Airport. The home and event space is not new to the Platte County community. The home’s history is how it got its name. Originally built in 1872, the house was added onto in 1890 and has now been transformed into an elegant destination. This beautiful property is designed for weddings and receptions, but can accommodate almost any type of celebration, large or small.
The history behind this estate is still seen today throughout the home and land. Not only will the people of Platte County appreciate what has been restored, but others will appreciate the beauty of the architecture and style, as well. Antique fireplaces, hand-carved oak, and beautiful chandeliers are throughout the 1890 home. The bridal suite, which overlooks guests as they arrive, has remarkable views of the rolling hills surrounding the property. Visitors to Pirtle Winery find themselves taken away to wine and relaxation when they enter the doors the the former German Lutheran Church built in 1867 that now is home to the winery’s tasting room. The attached outdoor, vine-covered wine garden has been a customer favorite for years and is the perfect getaway to enjoy your favorite wine with one of our popular picnic baskets. Enjoy a basket filled with warm sourdough bread, cheeses, fruit, and summer sausage while you kick back and relax and escape the rest of the world. Or join a group of friends on our new deck off the second floor. In addition, The Cellar offers indoor space for seating on the days the weather is not cooperative or for private rental for special events. The Cellar was the former home to all of our winemaking at one time!
Our family owned and operated business celebrates 40 years in 2018. The winemaking that started with the first generation continues to produce multiple award-winning wines. All of our wines are produced and bottled in our new production building directly across the street from the winery. This building houses all of our tanks, chillers, bottling line, and is where we store our wines. We offer a wide variety of 23 different wines including several dry reds and whites, semi-dry/sweet, sweet, and bubbly. A unique wine in our lineup is our Mead wine which is wine made from honey. We have won multiple international awards for our Mead which is also the official mead of the KC RenFest. House specialties include cheddar & ale soup, bangers & mash, beef & guinness and fish & chips. Char-grilled steaks, salmon and chicken are favorites in the evening. Each of the three dining rooms offers a unique ambiance. The Keeping Room, reminiscent of a charming country inn, is furnished with long, handcrafted refectory tables with antique oil-fired lamps. Lace curtains hang at the six over six windows.
John Georgean's portrait hangs high on the bittersweet wall in the Ordinary. Highlighted by the 19th century quarter-sawn oak furnishings from the first Weston Post Office, this traditional dining room chronicles Weston's heritage and displays a multitude of Public House artifacts, including an antique sherry tun and two small poteen stills.
The friendly, chatty atmosphere of the Theater is a favorite of history buffs. A collage of photographs and prints of historic Fort Leavenworth and early Weston adorns the paneled walls. Weston Coffee Roastery is a gourmet coffee shop and scratch bakery that opened in Weston in November of 2016. They begin by purchasing the highest quality coffee beans from great fair trade coffee growers from around the world. Those beans are small batch roasted to perfection to assure the optimum peak of flavor. Fresh roasted coffees and espressos are served hot or iced.
Looking for something other than coffee? Not to worry. They also offer a full variety of hot and iced teas, hot cocoa, smoothies and a sampling of delicious home-baked delectables. The day’s delectables may include cookies, cakes, pastries, muffins and other seasonal things like caramel apples, tarts and cheesecakes. Items are available to enjoy in or take home.
Weston Coffee Roastery is also a gathering place. It’s a great place to visit with friends, study, hold a meeting or plan a small event. The unique and comfortable atmosphere provides an escape from life’s demands by providing a peaceful ambiance and terrific customer service. A trip to the Weston Red Barn Farm is like visiting a turn of the century working farm.
In the spirit of preserving the American dream of farming, the Red Barn Farm offers visitors the opportunity to experience a real working farmstead. We feature traditional farm animals and crops. In addition to the working farm, we offer school tours, a country store featuring our fresh produce, facilities for weddings and bonfire/hayride events and a fall festival where families can come pick pumpkins and apples, take a hayride and enjoy the country.
The farm is open spring through fall, allowing visitors the chance to experience our farm through the changing seasons. In the spring and summer, our country store is a daily farmer's market, selling locally grown produce picked at its peak. In the fall, we celebrate the harvest being brought in and offer visitors the chance to have some old-fashioned farm fun. Hours vary according to the season so please check the calendar or call ahead before coming to visit.
Note regarding Admission Fee during School Tours: Monday through Friday before 2pm our staff is working with school tours. Admission to the barnyard during this period is obtained by paying the school tour fee and accompanying one of our tour groups or doing a self-guided tour. You can purchase admission to the barnyard at the information booth or in the country store. There is no admission fee after 2pm Monday through Friday, and from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays during the farm season.
